Questions about beer glasses
What size beer glass should I choose? What is the difference between a clear and a coloured beer glass? Are Duralex® glasses also suitable for non-alcoholic drinks? Find below our answers to the most frequently asked questions about choosing the right beer glass.
Why enjoy beer in a glass?
Whether white, blonde, brown or amber, beer is characterised by flavours that are sometimes spicy, sometimes fruity and sometimes even caramelised. To take full advantage of all these aromas, it's vital to pour your beer into the right glass, so that the different flavours can diffuse freely. On the other hand, beer glasses give your senses a chance to take part in the tasting: smell, of course, because the sense of smell is closely linked to our appreciation of taste, but also sight, because the appearance, texture and effervescence of the drink are all indicators of the different types of beer. Finally, drinking the beer in a glass will allow some of the product to escape, making it easier to digest: in fact, when the beer is poured, some of the carbon dioxide escapes and is transformed into white foam, limiting the effects of bloating.
What size beer glass?
Every country has its own beer. Some, however, stand out for their very high global production, as in the case of Germany and Belgium. Depending on the brand, some beers are sold in one-litre bottles for sharing with family and friends, while others are smaller and available in individual containers. At Duralex®, you'll find up to 6 different sizes of glass to suit all tastes: 25 cl, 31 cl, 33 cl, 36 cl, 50 cl and even 56 cl. By buying sets of different sizes, you can give your guests the choice of how much beer they want to drink as an aperitif or at dinner.
What shape of beer glass?
Duralex® glasses are all straight glasses, the most common form of beer glass. Directly from Ireland, this glass in the shape of an inverted cone promotes fizz, is easy to hold and also allows the beverage to be properly degassed while producing a nice head. Although suitable for all types of beer, straight glasses are particularly well known for showcasing Pale Ale and amber beers. In a 50cl format, historically known as the pint glass, you'll find the Prisme model, with its elegant, contemporary design, and the Le Picardie® model, with its bevelled curves, both sold in packs of 6.
Which glass for which type of beer?
Forget the plastic cup, the classic table glass or the cocktail glass for your favourite drink. Enjoy your beer just like in the pub, in an appropriate glass! The different sets of Duralex® beer glasses, all made of very strong tempered glass, will suit every occasion. The brand offers three models of beer glass: Prisme, Le Picardie® and Unie, which come in transparent sets, ideal for those who want to analyse the colour of their drink, or in tinted glass for more imaginative and original tables. The brand's signature colours include blue, grey and yellow. Finally, as part of the iconic Le Picardie® collection, the brand now offers a coloured or plain frosted version available in 25 cl, 36 cl or 50 cl, perfect for adding freshness to your fermented drinks in summer.
