Did you know that before making tableware, Duralex® produced glass parts for the automotive industry? That's right! Our tempered glass is so resistant that it was first used to create windscreens and headlights.
But after a few years, we came up with the idea of using this new process to design timeless tableware that could withstand (almost) any impact and stand the test of time.
Today, it's your turn to invent a new life for your Duralex® glass. After all... If it was first a windscreen, then a trendy crockery item, it undoubtedly has other hidden talents?
Whether you're in the mood for a pretty verrine to impress your guests, a discreet candle jar to light up your evenings, or an improvised vase to show off those few flowers, here are 5 ways to give your Duralex® glasses a new lease of life.
- Turn your glasses into candle holders
Want to create an intimate atmosphere for your next date? In that case, opt for a candlelit dinner and turn your Duralex® glass into a candle jar to light up your evening.
It couldn't be easier! Choose a glass, such as the Manhattan (22 cl)The candle jar, designed to evoke the cosy atmosphere of New York cocktail bars, can be filled up to a third full with coloured sand, then a pretty candle placed inside.
And if you're not really into decorating, or don't have the time to make your own candle holder, you can also order one of our scented candlesIt's quicker and smells amazing!
- Add some flowers to your table with Duralex®.
Another decorative tip: turn your Duralex® glass into an improvised vase and add a few fresh or dried flowers to brighten up your table. For even more originality, you can opt for a coloured glass, like the Saphirthe Vermeil or the Prune.
The advantage? All our lenses are "mass tinted", meaning that the colour is not sprayed onto the lens. Instead, we use natural pigments, incorporated directly into the glass while it is still in its liquid state.
This way, when the glass solidifies, the minerals are captured inside, allowing your glass to retain all its brilliance, colour and shine, even after hundreds of trips through the dishwasher.
- Improvise a pencil cup
Duralex® glass may be the star of the kitchen and dining room, but it goes everywhere with you, even in the office. For example, you can turn it into a pencil cup to help organise your workspace.
No more pencils lying all over the place, and no more time wasted looking for that darn blue marker that has magically disappeared again. All your belongings are safely tucked away and waiting for you in your Duralex® tempered glass tumbler.
- Use your glass as a coffee cup
Have you run out of mugs and got a sudden craving for a great iced coffee? Then swap your usual coffee mug for one of our legendary glasses, Le Picardie® (36 cl)with its elegant bevelled facets.
All Duralex® glasses are certified to EN 1183, which means they can withstand thermal shocks of up to 130°C. So whether you like your coffee steaming or iced, you can enjoy it with your eyes closed.
- Create a delicious verrine
Duralex® glasses can withstand both hot and cold. So why not use them to prepare a pretty verrine the next time you have guests for dinner? Our favourite recipe: beetroot and fresh goat's cheese verrine.
It's easy to prepare, original and full of flavour. To make it stand out, we recommend you opt for The Gigogne®our best-seller, with its generous curves and iconic design.
In a nutshell
Duralex® glass can do (almost) anything. Its resistance to thermal shock and its unfailing durability mean it can follow you around every day, making it the ideal companion for all your desires, no matter how crazy!
Vase, candle jar, or verrine... Its uses are limited only by your imagination. Have you discovered other original ways to use your Duralex® glasses? Share your finds on our Instagram page!
